Welcome Fall!

This summer has been unbearably long... in fact... it's still way too warm. And humid. UGH! Weather aside, fall is marked around here by the St. Bonaventure Fair. This pictures are a little lousy as the camera was forgotten and the iPhone (woot!) had to stand in. :)

Angus was in complete awe of the live band. He stood alone in the middle of the dance floor forever just fixated. He gave a little wiggle every couple of songs, but never cracked a smile. Serious kid. He's got a lot on his mind.

Angus & Poppa rode the Jalopy Junction... my finger was jealous and had to get in the picture.

Fire Station Open House!

Nana & Papo live across the street from a firehouse and for as long as he was aware of his surroundings Angus has been fascinated (or should I say obsessed) by fire trucks. Much to our delight the fire station had an open house and of course we were there!

The shrieks of delight and excitement we were expecting were of course contained within his stoic awe.

Oh my god... is this a fire truck?!

He starts to get into it... but is still reserved

After touching all of the fire engines he was fixated on the battalion Chief's SUV... he kept standing near it and screaming "go go go!" We attempted to leave several times thinking we were following his wishes. Turns out... he wanted to get into the Chief's vehicle and go. No such luck.

Happy Birthday Ethan!

We went to Angus' cousin Ethan's birthday party at Boomer's recently... much to my amazement and dismay, Angus quickly learned about video games and became quite attached. He is also fond of tickets... tasty!

anything can be a Hat (basically all you have to do is hand him something and say... "Angus, is that a hat?" Ha! Fun party trick!)

Sometimes he just stops to sit down... this was one of those moments. So cute.

So much catching up to do!

I have been a bad blogger... I walk through life composing blogs in my head, but I rarely get here anymore. What can I say? (throws hands in the air for dramatic effect).

So, I think it is important that you know a couple of key things that have happened lately and then some fun posts with pictures will follow. :)

1. Angus says please... and thank you. WITHOUT being asked! Can you believe that?! awesomeness. We have the best kid ever... clearly it's because we are the best parents ever. :) By the way, lest you miss it in person, please is: beez and thank you is: teku.

2. Angus shares. The other night at dinner he wanted to hold his fire guy (a little fireman action figure) and he happily chatted with him while offering him bits of chicken. He paused briefly to ask for his water cup and upon receipt started to "feed" chicken to the water too. Who knew that 16 month olds had imagination?! Again... awesome.

3. This is just a funny story, no moral: So after drinking his water Angus always throws his cup. I have no idea why, he certainly hasn't observed us doing that sort of thing, but we also never really addressed the issue until now. At dinner recent Rod was asking Angus to set his cup down gently. After several prompts Angus took a drink and then nuzzled the cup in the crook of his neck, kissed it, hugged it, and then set it down. Get it? Gentle! That's his perception of gentle; hugs and kisses. Love it!

4. Other funny and/or scary things that have happened: He's tried to ride the dog, unsuccessfully... and no one got hurt, he can climb out of the bathtub (ack!), he will "clink" his cup with yours when you say "salud!" to him, he has an affinity for "guys" (little play action figures), and him and Rod spent time 100% alone for a couple of days because Momma went on a business trip and we all survived!

I have fond memories...

of a time before Angus could say "momma"

He only started doing it recently, and prior to that time I longed to hear my "name" come from his mouth in a meaningful way. For a week or so, it was like music to my ears.

Today, my son learned how to stop making music with that instrument and beat me over the head with it.

At dinner he became very frustrated, very quickly when he was done and I wasn't moving fast enough to get him out of his seat. Through his whines I reminded him to say "please" and he began to scream. The wordless screams quickly morphed into load moaning proclamations "momma! MOMMA! MAMAAAAAA mmaaaama..." Every time he took a breath I choked through the emotional pain and reminded him to say "please"

It took a few minutes but wails eventually changed from "momma" to "beez" and he was freed from the chair.

The whole thing probably lasted all of 3 minutes, but it felt like an eternity.

Mark your calendar, this is the first official moment in which I am reminiscing about a baby who was more baby than child.
