Earning HIs Keep

Angus has been helping out around the house to earn his allowance. Here, he shows off his manly farmer tan while helping poppa fix the screen door

He also pauses for dramatic, shirtless, drill toting effect

And smiles to make sure we know he is enjoying his work.

and he washes cars too!

Inventive Eating

Angus has been getting very creative at the dinner table lately. This first selection of photos and videos is an homage to beans & rice, his favorite. Partly for it's tastiness and partly because it sticks to the fork or spoon and helps him build self efficacy. :)

So, today at dinner Angus was eating chicken and rice and I was having some leftover soup. He always wants what I have so I figured I would beat him to the punch and offer him some. Well, like most people, because it wasn't his idea... he didn't like it, and he declined repeatedly.

Later he decided he wanted some and he ate all of the potatoes out of the soup. He demanded more, and despite my explanation that there were no more potatoes left he insisted on having more soup. So, I started to give him little bits of broth mixed with his chicken and rice dinner. He was down with that... but eventually he decided he needed to do it himself. That's when I went and got the camera...

He Speaks!

So, Angus has been "saying" many words for quite some time now... but now he talks for real. Three words, clear as day, without absolute intent and appropriate use:

1. No
2. Hi
3. Bye

I'm not talking baby talk here, people. This is not Nuh, Hah, and Buh... This is No, Hi, and Bye. He is ready to be a world traveler, no three words are more efficient than those.

Inspired by another momma's blog I thought it would be fun to list the things Angus does say (or has said) that probably only I can hear:

4. Ball
5. Truck
6. Fire (as in, fire truck)
7. Helicopter
8,9,&10. Here you go
11,12,&13. What is this?
14. Dog

26. More
27. Book

McMac Family Update

All's quiet on the McMac front... at least right now. Angus is asleep and Rod is videotaping a wedding. I am watching Iron Man and eating generic brand double stuffed oreos (which by the way are only as stuffed as regular (genuine) oreos.

Rod's health: still a mystery... for the most part, with a few bad days mixed in, Rod has been doing well. He isn't talking a lot about how he feels, when asked he usually says he feels okay. The overwhelming difference is that he is just sick and tired of being sick and tired and he is using that to motivate himself to re-enter the land of the living.

Rod's job: He is trying to go back to work and would be able to do that if he could get a hold of his doctor to get a release note... if anyone has any power in that area, let us know. :) No word yet from LAIKA in Portland, he'll be following up again early next week.

Angus: He's talking a lot saying things like "truck" "bus" "duck" "bonka" and newly entertaining and soon to become annoying "no!" It's amazing how quickly his baby-ness has faded away and a little boy is developing. He recently injured his left shoulder, still not sure how, when, or why, but he had a couple of rough days (see picture) where he only wanted to be held. Luckily, he's got a cuddly Poppa who can stay home with him when he is too miserable to go to school.

Me (Kate): Work is incredibly stressful and overwhelming, but I am counting on being finished with some big projects very soon and experiencing the rewarding moments of feeling accomplished again very soon. :)

We're hanging in there!
